Many people want to know more about veneers. We have prepared answers to the questions about veneers that are most frequently asked by our Newport Beach patients.
Veneers are thin porcelain sheets that are bonded to the front of teeth. They provide a beautiful remedy for teeth that are chipped, cracked, misaligned or permanently stained. Although veneers are not suitable for every patient, the porcelain laminates benefit many people and create the foundation for a perfect smile.
Porcelain veneers are:
In just two appointments you will have a beautiful new smile.
Dr. Worth uses digital cosmetic imaging to illustrate options for your new smile. Dr. Worth also uses bonding material to prepare a mock up of what your smile will look like with new veneers. So you can see what you will look like with spaces closed, cracks repaired and misaligned teeth straightened. Porcelain Laminates can change the size, shade and contour of your existing teeth. Dr. Worth also has numerous before and after photos of her actual smile transformations that you can view. The photographs will help you envision what you will look like with a perfect and natural smile.
Dr. Worth knows that every smile is unique. Each patient has a different facial asymmetry, skeletal structure and skin tone. Dr. Worth considers these characteristics as she examines a patient’s face. She also photographs patients, which allows Dr. Worth and her laboratory technicians to study your facial appearance. Most important, she values your input. Dr. Worth, a former model, has studied esthetic design – she’s a master of artistic dentistry.
During your first appointment, Dr. Worth will prepare your teeth by removing a minimal amount of their outer layer. She will take impressions of your teeth and fabricate beautiful temporaries. At this time, you will have an opportunity to make slight changes to the design of the permanent veneers. When you leave our office your smile will be more attractive than when you arrived. Immediately, the impressions will be sent to a lab that makes permanent porcelain veneers. During your second visit, the veneers will be tried in and permanently bonded to your teeth.
We use local anesthetic and Dr. Worth has refined her technique for painless treatment. For patients who require extensive work or have serious concerns, we offer the services of an excellent anesthesiologist who will administer mild intravenous sedation.
Veneers are smooth, just like natural teeth. And they function in the same way. You can enjoy the foods you love to eat, providing that your diet is normal.
Veneers are fabricated from porcelain so they won’t change color or stain. However, if the underlying tooth structure darkens over time, simply using bleaching trays can lighten the veneers.
To maintain proper hygiene, we recommend regular cleanings and exams with our oral hygienists. As with all natural teeth and restorations, proper care can help prevent decay. In rare cases, if a veneer comes off it can be replaced with a new one.
